SUMMARY:Baxter State Park
DESCRIPTION:Consider a foray into Baxter Park with bunkhouse accommodations at Chimney Pond. This will require a backpack of 3.3 miles each way in from Roaring Brook and out from Chimney Pond. There are multiple day hike options including all Katahdin peaks\, Russell and Davis Ponds\, Pamola caves\, NW Basin. Bunkhouse is reserved for September 19\, 20 and 21st. There are 7 spots open and $30 will hold space. \n\nThis is a trip for more experienced hikers with some backpacking/wilderness experience.  For details on equipment\, please refer to Backpacking checklist on REI.com. (Will not need tent due to enclosed bunkhouse.) Due to closeness of quarters\, prefer those with COVID vaccinations. This will be a hike your own hike trip but groups and support for others encouraged.  Though parking is included in this reservation\, carpooling\, meet up time to hike in will be discussed at least a week before the trip. DESCRIPTION:UPDATE – My husband just tested positive for Covid so we are having to cancel. However\, others are going at this time. We were holding a 2 bedroom townhouse that may be available. \nJoin a group of Thursday Hikers (Topsham/Brunswick area group) for a 3 or 4 nights stay at Mt. Chase Lodge on Upper Shin Pond. Check it out here – https://mtchaselodge.com/ \nI’d be happy to try to help folks set this up for to share. 1 Queen and 2 twins and 1 queen and bunk bed with full and twin plus a futon couch. One cabin for 3 nights with 3 bedrooms. 2 MOAC members are staying next door at Shin Pond Village. \nWe are getting a discounted rate so be sure to talk to me before booking. A deposit is required and non-refundable but can be used within one year. \nYou can bring your own kayak or SUP or use one of the lodge’s. Hiking includes Katahdin Woods and Waters National Monument\, Baxter State Park (north entrance) and Mt. Chase. Paddle at Scraggly Lake or Grand Lake Matagamon (Baxter State Park). Hike to Grand Pitch on the Sebois River. Drop down to Grindstone and hike or bike the Penobscot River Trails.
