SUMMARY:*Postponed* Bike the Eastern Trail\, Scarborough to Saco
DESCRIPTION:Bike the Eastern Trail\, Scarborough to Saco \n*Postponed as of 5/21/24: The Trail Manager of the Eastern Trail kindly told me that the section through the Marsh is scheduled for improvements next week. I rode that section last week and it’s pretty rough. Our tires and saddles will benefit if we reschedule for after the improvements.* \nWhat: 13.6 miles round trip through beautiful Scarborough Marsh and along wide wooded paths. The trail is all off-road\, almost entirely flat. The surface is mostly sand\, gravel\, or packed dirt with a few short paved sections. Feel free to contact me for more specifics. Padded bike shorts and wide tires recommended\, not road tires. Our pace will be leisurely. Bring a snack for a rest break. There are no portapotties along the route\, but wooded privacy can be found. No dogs\, please. \nWhen: Friday\, May 24\, 9:30 am -12:30 \nWhere: Meet in the parking lot on Eastern Road\, Scarborough. From Route 1 in Scarborough\, turn south onto Black Point Rd./Route 207 (on the other side of Route 1 it’s called Gorham Rd./Route 114). In 0.3 miles turn right onto Eastern Road\, then in 0.3 miles you’ll reach the large parking area. \nWho: Laura Williams. Please email me to let me know you’re coming and include your cell number in case there’s a last-minute change. The day of\, please text or phone me at (207) 239-2913 rather than emailing if you need to reach me. I will cancel on the MOAC website by 8 am the day of if there are no sign-ups.

SUMMARY:ACADIA CAMPING\, BIKING\, AND HIKING
DESCRIPTION:Seawall is now full for the weekend.  If interested in going to Acadia\, please check Bass Harbor Campground which is nearby. \n  \nFor many years\, it has been a MOAC tradition to go to Bar Harbor Campground for Memorial Weekend.  Unfortunately\, the campground has been sold to a large corporation and is no longer a “first come\, first serve” facility.  I am finding the price points too expensive for me to want to make a reservation. \nI have booked a site at Seawall Campground which is part of Acadia National Park.  Reservations can only be made 2 months in advance so Memorial Weekend has just opened up and is filling up very quickly.  As of 3:30PM \, 3/28\, there are 22 campsites still left.  Most are in Loop C.  If interested\, you must act NOW!!!  Cost is $30 per night with a 50% discount for anyone having a National Park Lifetime Senior Pass.  Go to: www.recreation.gov to make reservations.  Also\, you can cancel two days in advance for a $10 cancellation fee if the weather does not cooperate.

SUMMARY:Mansell Mountain–Southwest Harbor
DESCRIPTION:This is a loop hike to Mansell Mountain\, using the following trails–Perpendicular\, Mansell\, and Cold Brook.  Distance is 2.4 miles\, elevation gain is 870 feet\, book time 2 hours and 20 minutes.  The Perpendicular Trail is an interesting trail with 1\,000 stone steps\, several iron rungs\, and one iron ladder.  It is referred to as the “stairway to heaven”.  The trailhead is at the Long Pond pumping station.  Directions are:  Follow Seal Cove Road in Southwest Harbor.   At .6 mile\, take the first right onto Long Pond Road and follow until the end.  I am not sure if a park pass is required but I would make the assumption that it is.
