SUMMARY:Group Camping at Mt. Blue State Park 8/6-8/9
DESCRIPTION:Maine’s largest state park\, with hiking and biking trails\, swimming and camping.  We’ll gather at this beautiful area in Weld\, Maine on Tuesday Aug 6th and depart Friday Aug 9th. SUMMARY:Kayak Trip in Middle Bay\, Brunswick
DESCRIPTION:You are invited to a 10-mile kayak trip on Wednesday\, August 7\, in Middle Bay\, Brunswick. We will meet at Mere Point at 9 am\, butts in boats at 10 am\, head south around Goose Islands\, head southeast to Whaleboat Island\, and then east to Harpswell Neck. We will then head north along Harpswell Neck\, have lunch at Mitchell Field\, head north past Lookout Point\, and kayak around the northern edge of Birch Island back to Mere Point. The high tide (Wilson’s Cove data) is at 8 am\, so it will still be coming in when we launch. Sign up by emailing me at us1863@gmail.com with your cell phone number\, what kayak you have\, and your experience level. \nParticipants will need lunch\, water\, and at least a 14.5-foot sea kayak. They must also wear a PFD and spray skirt and know how to perform a wet exit\, self-rescue\, and assisted rescue. The trip is limited to eight people.

You can just do the paddle or and hang out after with the camping group at the Mt Blue campground for swimming and/or lawn games\, and even into happy hour and dinner. If you stay for dinner\, it’s the standard MOAC potluck. BYOB\, protein and a dish to share. \nThe address for the campground is 187 Webb Beach Road in Weld. \nMeet at the South Shelter\, which is right next to the boat launch in time to get on the water at 2:00. \nShow and Go or let me know to look for you or if you have questions. DESCRIPTION:August Presentation: MITA\, the Maine Island Trail Association \nPlease joins us as Membership Manager Kayla Bickerman-Martens of the Maine Island Trail Association (MITA) tells us who MITA is and how it came into being. She will also share information about the trail\, how to become a member\, and make the most of your membership using the App and the Guide. \nThe Maine Island Trail Association\, founded in 1988\, is a border-to-border (New Hampshire/Canada) water trail along the coast of Maine. Currently comprised of 258 sites that are available for public day use and/or overnight use. Each season\, we engage with upwards of 1\,000 volunteers and over 6\,000 members who help us maintain these incredible island ecosystems and keep them healthy and thriving. \n———————————————— \nKalyn joined the full-time MITA staff in February of 2023\, having previously served as a membership associate from 2021-2022. She was born and raised in Maine and has always had a connection to the islands\, particularly through her background in canoe and kayak instruction. She received her BA in Biology from Bowdoin and her MA in Conservation Biology from Columbia University\, and (fun fact) is also an entomologist. \n \n———————— \n\nIn addition to the presentations\, the meeting is a chance to hear about recent outings\, hear about upcoming outings\, and socialize with other MOACers.  It’s also a chance for new or prospective members to ask questions.  Meeting begins at 7:00\, but come at 6:30 to socialize and meet people. \nLocation: the Allen Avenue Unitarian Universalist Church\, 524 Allen Avenue\, Portland (near Northgate Shopping Plaza).  Here’s a Google Map link.
