SUMMARY:Planning: Stevenson Trail trek in France\, date TBA
DESCRIPTION:Interested in a 5-7 day walking trip through southern France? The Stevenson Trail (or G70) is a moderate difficulty path that passes through picturesque villages\, forests\, and low mountains (the Cévennes region of the Massif Central). It is named after Robert Louis Stevenson (Treasure Island) who traveled it with a pack donkey and wrote a book about his trip. Today\, you can follow the well-marked route\, aided by maps and guidebooks. And a series of outfitters and B&Bs associated with the trail make it possible to rent a donkey and stop each night at lodgings. Prices are reasonable\, the food is good\, and the scenery is beautiful (fluffy hiking companion is a bonus!). No French is required. If this sounds appealing (or you want to know who’s crazy enough to consider it)\, contact Maria Snyder to start planning for a possible group trip. Dates still TBA\, but fall 2025 is likely. mariahsnyder501@gmail.com

SUMMARY:Hike in Blackstrap Community Forest\, Falmouth
DESCRIPTION:Hike in Blackstrap Community Forest\, Falmouth \nWhat: About 5.5-6 miles of assertive hills\, a hidden waterfall\, and the niftiest boulder crossings around. I would call this a demanding route\, with a trail I haven’t included on a MOAC hike before. Blackstrap is often colder and windier than weather reports suggest\, so bundle up in layers. We won’t need Exospikes. Hunting is allowed here. No dogs\, please. \nWhen: Wednesday\, January 8\, 9:00 a.m.-12:30 p.m. \nWhere: 106 Hurricane Rd.\, Falmouth. Hurricane Rd. runs between Blackstrap Rd. and Gray Rd. From Gray Rd\, the parking lot is about a mile down Hurricane Rd. on the left\, just after you cross the Turnpike. The gravel lot has plenty of parking. \nWho: Laura Williams. Please email or text me to let me know you’re coming. If you text\, please identify yourself in case you’re not in my phone book. If you need to reach me the day of\, please text or phone rather than emailing. I will cancel on the MOAC website by 7 am the day of if there are no takers.
