DESCRIPTION:An easy walk along the beautiful mountain division railroad/bike path. Conviviality and socializing guaranteed. We will walk for a little less than  2 hours and just under 4 miles. Less time if we are faster. We will park at the right hand parking lot of Orchard Ridge farm\, route 237 in Gorham. MOAC/er and owner Mary Walker has allowed us to use the lot and I have promised that we would give some business at the farm store (refreshments\, sweets\, t-shirts etc.). DESCRIPTION:Moderate loop via Shell Pond\, White Cairn\, Blueberry Ridge\, Overlook and Stone House Trails\, about 4.5 miles and 1200 ft elevation gain. There are nice ledge views and a side trip to beautiful Rattlesnake Pool. There is also an option to add Shell Pond trail which is an additional 3 miles at easy grade. Pace will be chill at 1-2 mph\, terrain dependent. Max of 8 people. \nWeather thus far\, is partly sunny with high of 58. Prepare for variable temperature\, bugs\, some mud. Bring lunch\, snacks and water of course. \nParking area is relatively small but more space available midweek.  Carpooling is suggested. I leave from Scarborough and can take 3 people. Pick up areas can be determined by participants. On trail no later than 930. \n

DESCRIPTION:As of 3/25/26\, Hadley’s lists 9 tent sites available and “plenty” of RV sites (water/electric/some with sewer). If you are interested in this trip\, please don’t wait too long. You also do NOT need to stay at Hadley’s. You are welcome to outdoor adventure with us and hang out for the evening/whenever festivities. \nLet’s keep a long-standing MOAC tradition alive by welcoming summer with a group campout on Mt. Desert Island. \nWe camped at Hadley’s Point CG last year and had a great time. Hadley’s Point is just off Route 3 as you head to Bar Harbor. It is 2.5 miles before Bar Harbor Campground. Holiday weekend prices appear to be: \n\nField tent sites are $37.00 per night\nWooded tent sites are $39.00 per night\nSites with water/electric are $54.00 per night\nThey even have cabins if you want to check those out\n\nThere appears to be a $3.25 campground fee\, plus tax of course. \nhttps://www.hadleyspoint.com/ \nTammy and I will reserve site C-37 (water and electric) and it is near to a pod of tent sites (13-20\, 30-36\, 40-42). We will also reserve C-36 to use as a home base for the group. We will ask attendees to help pay for this community site. If we get 25 people\, that will mean about $5 per person for the weekend. \nIf you choose to go\, please drop us a line at pcm25me@gmail.com so we know who to expect and what site you are in. You can also stay anywhere you like and come visit as well. \nYou do have to make your own reservations. Deposit amounts vary. For 1-2 nights\, it is the full balance. For 3 or more it is $100. Unfortunately\, they state there are no refunds for a holiday weekend. \nIt might be best to grab a site as soon as you can if you are interested. \nWe will continue the traditional experience of group happy hours and pot luck dinners in the evenings. SUMMARY:Pawtuckaway SP hike
DESCRIPTION:Loop exploration of North and South Mt. 6.4 miles and about 1300 feet elevation gain. This a moderate hike with a slow to moderate pace depending on attendees. Weather looks very good right now\, but per usual\, prepare for change in weather\, pack adequate food and water. \nAttached  photo will show the trail. Parking is near the trailhead on reservation Road. All Trails has good directions. Consider carpooling. I can take three people.  Initial meeting places can be Cabela’s at 830am and/or Wells park/drive both on ME turnpike. Goal is to be at trailhead by 10am with  a 10 minute leeway. \nPawtuckaway SP has diverse terrain\, including a lake\, fire tower\, marsh\, and a glacial boulder field. This specific loop follows a ring dike\, a circular formation due to past volcanic activity. The views are quite nice in many sections. \nBe aware that this park requires a parking day pass for hiking which can be obtained on website: Reserve America and the fee is $5 for each person. This hike is weather dependent\, already postponed from May 31.   Eileen can’t go Tuesday\, so I am organizing those interested in this date\, Tuesday June 9. Yes I know it is election day; I voted already… It is the best weather this week. Temps are supposed to be mid-50s with lower winds than last 10 days or this coming Saturday and some sun. \nThis is an intermediate hike of 3.5 miles out and back across rocks above tree line.  You are required to STAY on the marked trail.  The terrain is fragile.  It will be 2+ hours of hiking or more depending on photos and enjoying the views.\n\n Weather on Washington  Here is Mountain-Weather link.\n\nSturdy boots\, wind/rain gear\, warm layers\, hat\, water\, food\, etc. are required.  Hiking poles are a good idea.\n\nLet me know if you want to carpool: I can drive or hitch a ride. I live on the East End in Portland.  Cost is $36 per person in a vehicle to drive six+ miles up the Auto Road to the trailhead.

The summit elevation is almost 5\,000′ so it can be cold and windy up there. Please have recent experience on similar hikes – this is not a trip for beginners. SUMMARY:Hike Baxter Peak (Mt Katahdin)
DESCRIPTION:The forecast is ideal; a gorgeous Sunday fun day! I have a Katahdin Trailhead Pass for my vehicle for day use at the Roaring Brook Campground. Plan on ascending Baxter Peak via the Cathedral Trail; descending on Saddle Trail. ~10 miles RT with ~3800′ gain. This is a challenging hike not for beginners (plan on at least 10 hours). The gatehouse at Baxter State Park opens at 6:00am. Once in the park\, it’s about a 10 mile drive (30 min) to the trailhead. I’d like to leave from Bangor no later than 4:00am for anyone wanting to carpool. If you are camping/lodging in the vicinity of Baxter State Park Saturday night (e.g.\, Millinocket)\, feel free to reach out if you’d like to catch a ride. Roberts located in the Lakes Region of New Hampshire.  Distance is 5.4 miles round trip with 1\,350 feet of elevation gain.  Hike is considered moderate.  The hike offers spectacular views of Lake Winnipesaukee and the White Mountains.  Meet at the Larrabee Road Park n Ride in Westbrook at 7:30 but this is not a show and go.  Please contact me at 207-838-0437.  Bring the usual hiking gear along with plenty of water\, lunch\, sunscreen\, and bug spray.  We might stop for ice cream on the way home if we pass a stand.

DESCRIPTION:Join me for a morning hike to explore the trails and climb the fire tower in Mt. Pisgah Conservation Area held by Kennebec Land Trust. Trails are well maintained. Weather should be clearing after weekend rains\, which I hope will wash out the smoke intruding on New England from Canadian and Minnesotan fires. The forecast includes more rain after Monday\, so Friday could be the alternate date. \n\nI propose the Tower Trail-Blueberry Trail loop\, 2.4 miles with elevation gain of 329 feet. We could also extend by doing the Ledges Trail also\, which may add about 1 mile more.\n\nMeet at TH at 8:30 a.m. be back at the cars by 1:00 p.m. Email me your interest so we can coordinate driving and possibly weather delay.

Let’s go to Bald Mountain and Little Concord Pond  near Peru and west Paris. \nIt’s a short\,  modest hike of 738 vertical. I propose hiking to the summit to enjoy the views\,  back down to the pond for a swim and lunch at the pond. \nThe trail  passes the pond. Car pooling from the marginal way Portland parking area at 8 am Friday 7/24. \nOr meet us at the Bald Mountain  Concord Pond Trail head at 9:45 . \n  \nFrom the east\, heading south on Route 140\, turn right on to Stetson Road 2.6 miles south of Canton center. After 2.8 miles turn right on to Fields Hill Road. Fields Hill Road turns in to Labrador Pond Road after 1.6 miles and stay straight for another 1.0 miles. Stay straight on to Greenwood Road for 0.2 miles before bearing left on to Black Mountain Road. After 0.8 miles turn left on to Redding Road. SUMMARY:Moosehead Lake Lily Bay State Park Camping Trip
DESCRIPTION:The group site at Lily Bay State Park is called Mud Brook. It is also called the most sought-after group site in the Maine State Park system.  Mud Brook is located on the eastern shore of Moosehead Lake (the largest lake in Maine)\, approximately eight miles out of Greenville. And MOAC has it for three nights: September 13– 16.  It is a three hour drive from Portland. \nThank you to our amazing phone beasts that secured this and the other State Park reservations for the summer.\nPlease RSVP to  jim.rochette1000@gmail.com if you are interested in joining us. \nThe group tent site has water on three sides and can host 30+ tents. There is an Adirondack Shelter\, and an outhouse at the site. We also have access to the main campground’s flush toilets and free hot showers and it is a 2-mile drive to those facilities.\nIf you would like to use your RV\, please contact the State Park for reservations at the main campground.\nActivities include hiking\, camping\, wildlife watching\, photography\, canoeing\, and kayaking (bring your own boats). Let’s not forget reading\, contemplating one’s naval\, and deep conversation. We will be looking for people to volunteer to lead the activities.\nThe cost is $30 per person whether you stay the whole weekend or not.\nWe will provide breakfast on Tuesday morning.\nThe menu for Sunday morning is bagels\, bacon\, sausage and blueberry pancakes.\nThe rest of the time you are on your own for food. SUMMARY:MH&T’s Flagstaff Hut Weekend
DESCRIPTION:Since we will not be around for August and a good part of September\, we are posting this now so you can save the date. Registrations will open about a month before the event. Check out the website below to learn more about Maine Huts and Trails and their huts. Price for the weekend is still to be determined. It was $155 last year. \nWe will answer any questions at any time. \nJoin us for the 13th annual Maine Huts & Trails weekend. MH&T’s operates four “ecolodges” along their network of trails in the Bigelows\, Flagstaff Lake\, and the Dead River. For this weekend\, Flagstaff Hut\, on the eastern shore of the lake is all ours. \nIt’s far more than a “hut”. A full commercial kitchen\, hot water\, showers\, electricity\, composting toilets\, etc. Sleeping is bunk room style (earplugs). This “hut” has a capacity of 48. We hope to limit it to 40 or so. \nActivities can include hiking\, mountain biking\, paddling (boats and gear provided)\, swimming\, or doing nothing. It will be late October. \nYou must walk in. From the parking lot\, it is 1.5 miles on a service road or two miles on actual hiking trails (for the full experience). Gear shuttle provided if you can get there by a certain time on Friday and possibly later. This would mean leaving your gear in a building at the parking lot and it will be delivered in (and out) so you only have to walk. \nYou only need to bring clothes (slippers or something for inside the hut)\, sleeping bag/bedding\, pillow case\, personal items\, earplugs\, and food as described below. You DO NOT need to bring anything to cook with or to eat on. Refrigeration is available but limited. You will have access to the kitchen. \nThe way the food works\, you provide your own food for Friday\, Saturday morning and noon. You will be asked to bring a “slice” of Saturday night’s dinner which all the “slices” will be combined for a fantastic feed. This year’s Saturday evening menu is still undecided. In the past we’ve done a pizza bar\, pasta bar\, taco bar\, friendsgiving dinner. There will also be Happy Hours you can contribute to. \nOn Sunday morning a portion of your payment for the weekend will provide a full spread breakfast. Pancakes\, frittata\, bacon\, sausage\, fruit\, granola\, yogurt\, etc. Vegetarian? Vegan? We have options for everyone. Coffee and tea and hot chocolate provided at least in the morning. Potable water available anytime. You will need to bring any other beverages you desire. BYOB for alcohol.
