SUMMARY:Sorry\, we are FULL - MH&T’s Flagstaff Hut
DESCRIPTION:Maine Huts & Trails operates four “Eco-Lodges” in northern Maine\, and for the weekend of October 27-29\, their Flagstaff Hut is all ours. The hut is located on the eastern shore of Flagstaff Lake\, about a 2.5 hour drive from Portland. \nThis will be our 10th year leading this trip and each year it is an experience to remember. Good company\, good food\, and the Maine woods. How could it not be? \nFlagstaff Hut (in name only) is an off-the-grid lodge (capacity of 44-48) with amenities. Electricity is provided by solar panels and a generator. Hot water via propane\, and heat\, if needed\, via wood. The building has composting toilets\, showers\, and a full commercial kitchen with refrigeration. \nThe cost for this weekend is $100 per person. \nSleeping is bunk room style (earplugs) in two separate buildings apart from the main lodge (earplugs). \nYou need to bring a sleeping bag\, pillow cover (recommended)\, clothes\, and personal items (earplugs). You will need to provide your own food for Friday\, Saturday morning\, and Saturday lunch. You DO NOT need to bring anything to cook with or on. You will have full use of the commercial kitchen. In a process perfected by Tammy\, you will be asked bring a small amount of food to contribute to the cause for Saturday dinner. More on that later. Sunday breakfast is a full spread paid for by part of your payment for the weekend. \nCoffee/tea/hot chocolate will be provided at least in the mornings and for some reason\, Happy Hours tend to materialize in the late afternoons. No obligation to participate but donations for those are welcome as well. \nThe hut is designed to be remote. You cannot drive to it. Gear can be dropped off at the service gate to shorten the distance but all must be carried in and out. We try to have as many carts and wagons as people are willing to bring to share to help move stuff. Your vehicle will be two miles from the hut when parked in the lot. Please keep this in mind as you plan on what you are bringing. \nActivities can include hiking\, mountain biking\, paddling\, navel gazing\, reading\, puzzles\, drinking wine\, staring at the fire. Music if the right people show up. Keep moving every second\, or do nothing. \nPlease click HERE to sign up. \nChecks can be made to Peter Mullen and mailed to 38 Lawrence Rd\, Gray\, 04039. $100 per person for the weekend\, \nWe also accept Venmo. Pay to tammy-mullen-5. Please put “MOAC” in the comments. \nWe look forward to seeing old friends and new faces at Flagstaff this fall.

SUMMARY:Halloween-ish Paddle(s) and BBQ camp day
DESCRIPTION:.Last day at camp before closing up for the winter.  I’ll be there by 2:00\, on the water at 3:00 for an easy paddle\, light up the BBQ and campfire at 5:00 and for anyone interested\, another light paddle or float on the water when the moon is up\, around 7:00. \nMy camp is in Gray on the upper west side of Little Sebago Lake.  Please RVSP for the address if you need it or just let me know you’re coming if you already know where it is. \nCome for the duration or just one or two activities.  BYOB and protein for the grill and a dish to share if you’re there for the BBQ portion.  Extra fake points that don’t matter (What’s My Line anyone?)  if you bring something Halloween themed. \nHalloween costumes and/or props welcome\, but we’ll mostly be outside so dress for the weather.  Remember to bring high waterproof footwear or neoprene booties to keep your feet warm getting in and out of the water. \nIf you go out on the water after dark\, you MUST have lights on the boat or on your person that can be seen from the front and back.  And you’d need to wear a PFD and whistle. \nI have kayaks\, paddle boards and a canoe you can borrow if you let me know ahead of time.  All but one of the kayaks are sit on tops\, so your butt will get wet unless you bring something to line it with.

SUMMARY:15 Mile Androscoggin River Kayak Trip
DESCRIPTION:You are invited to a 15-mile MOAC kayak trip down the Androscoggin River on Saturday\, July 13 (the rain date is Sunday\, July 14). \nThanks to someone more familiar with the river\, the trip is now 15 miles with no portages. We will put in at Twin Bridge (Googins Island) in West Leeds and take out at Cherry Pond on River Road in Greene. The total distance is about 15 miles\, \nThis section has no rapids\, so it should be a moderate trip. Depending on group speed and current\, I estimate the time to be 5 to 6 hours on the water. We will meet at Cherry Pond on River Road in Greene at 8 am\, put our kayaks on 3-4 cars\, and carpool 20 minutes to Twin Bridge (Googins Island) in West Leeds. We will stop for lunch. We will stop for a group break if anyone needs a break. This section of the river is listed as scenic\, with ample opportunity to view wildlife. At the end of the trip\, we will carpool for 20 minutes to get the cars left in West Leeds. Expect a seven-hour day. Stopping at a local watering hole is an option. \nParticipants will need lunch\, water\, at least a 14.5-foot sea kayak\, have and wear a PFD\, know how to do a wet exit\, a self-rescue\, and an assisted rescue. A spray skirt and kayak wheels are recommended but not necessary. The trip is limited to 6-8 people. \nImages are Twin Bridge (Goggins Island) in West Leeds and Cherry Pond on River Road in Greene. \nAs of June 26\, eight people are registered: two men and six women. Feel free to sign up before registration closes on Monday\, July 8\, and I will put you on a waitlist.

SUMMARY:Memorial Day Weekend Camping in Bar Harbor
DESCRIPTION:Let’s keep a long-standing MOAC tradition alive by welcoming summer with a group campout on Mt. Desert Island. It’s getting harder to do but I think this will work. \nFor those wondering\, Bonnie has family obligations and said she isn’t going to post this trip this year. \nA check of both Seawall and Blackwoods in Acadia National Park show pretty much sold out already. \nAs of 3/22/25\, Hadley’s Point Campground has 29 tent sites and 28 water/electric sites available. This is according to their website. Hadley’s Point is just off Route 3 as you head to Bar Harbor. It is 2.5 miles before Bar Harbor Campground. \n\nField tent sites are $36.08 per night\nWooded tent sites are $38.08 per night\nSites with water/electric are $53.08 per night\n\nThere appears to be a $3.25 campground fee\, plus tax of course. \nTammy and I have reserved site C-39 (water and electric) and it is near to a pod of tent sites (13-20\, 30-36\, 40-42). \nIf you choose to go\, please drop us a line at pcm25me@gmail.com so we know who to expect. \nYou do have to make your own reservations. Deposit amounts vary. For 1-2 nights\, it is the full balance. For 3 or more it is $100. Unfortunately\, they state there are no refunds for a holiday weekend. \nIt might be best to grab a site as soon as you can if you are interested. \nWe will continue the traditional experience of group happy hours and pot luck dinners on Saturday and Sunday evenings in one area to be determined to be the group hangout. Activities during the day will be up to the group. Hiking\, biking\, paddling\, etc.

SUMMARY:Camping at Rangeley Lake State Park-Trip is Full
DESCRIPTION:Eileen’s Text: 207-749-0211  MOAC has reserved the East End Group Camping Site at Rangeley Lake State Park (RLSP) for three nights.  There is one larger area for group meals and hanging out with a fire.  Otherwise\, there are separate sites for each member(s).  This set-up allows for both privacy and social time with the group.  The park boasts a swimming beach with a grassy area and steps leading into the water where boats can be launched\, as well as two miles of walking trails.  MAP OF THE CAMPGROUND \nThere are plenty of options for activities at RLSP or elsewhere in the area:  hiking\, walking\, swimming\, boating and mountain biking.  Leaders will need to self-identify.  4k footer peak baggers or AT section hikers have options as well as.  Here are 28 walks and hikes within 20 miles of Rangeley.\nTop hikes in Rangeley area from All Trails\nVisit Maine Bureau of Parks and Lands online for more information and a printable map.\nFEE:  $30 per person for the trip regardless of how many nights.   Since the leader pays the balance upon arrival\, you will need to pay $30 upfront to reserve your space.  Sites will be claimed on a first come\, first serve basis.  Pay by Venmo @Eileen-Whynot.  It is probably too late to mail a check to me. \nFOOD:  As was the case in 2024\, the leader will provide grill-able meats and veggie options.  Otherwise\, the dinners will be potluck\, so plan on bringing food to share\, bring your own (BYO)  beverages\, plate and utensils.  BYO lunch and breakfast food or plan to eat out in Rangeley. SUMMARY:Ossippe River trip
DESCRIPTION:This is a trip I have run annually with MOAC since joining in 1998 ( except for a couple of the Covid years).  The trip is about 7 miles of class 2 whitewater river travel.  Not a show and go trip.  I need to talk with participants to ensure folks have the proper gear and clothing.   Swimming in cold water has happened on past trips so I need to understand where folks have paddled before\, what clothing they have and what type of boat they plan to use.   We usually stop on the river to eat lunch along the way.   This trip will also be offered as a joint trip with the PPCS group that I presented at the March 2026 meeting.   If interested\, reach out to get more details.   My cell is 207-653-9315     Thanks   Bob Radowicz

DESCRIPTION:It has been quite some time since I have run this river.    I remember it being a nice Class 2 whitewater river trip.   Similar to the Ossippee trip that I posted for the weekend prior\, folks need to reach out and chat with me before the trip so I can help ensure they have the right gear and clothing and get an idea of other whitewater paddling they have done.   If interested\, reach out and talk with me.   Cell number is 207-653-9315.  This trip will also be a joint trip with the PPCS group.   Thanks !  Bob Radowicz

SUMMARY:Memorial Day Weekend Camping in Bar Harbor - UPDATE!!
DESCRIPTION:As of 3/25/26\, Hadley’s lists 9 tent sites available and “plenty” of RV sites (water/electric/some with sewer). If you are interested in this trip\, please don’t wait too long. You also do NOT need to stay at Hadley’s. You are welcome to outdoor adventure with us and hang out for the evening/whenever festivities. \nLet’s keep a long-standing MOAC tradition alive by welcoming summer with a group campout on Mt. Desert Island. \nWe camped at Hadley’s Point CG last year and had a great time. Hadley’s Point is just off Route 3 as you head to Bar Harbor. It is 2.5 miles before Bar Harbor Campground. Holiday weekend prices appear to be: \n\nField tent sites are $37.00 per night\nWooded tent sites are $39.00 per night\nSites with water/electric are $54.00 per night\nThey even have cabins if you want to check those out\n\nThere appears to be a $3.25 campground fee\, plus tax of course. \nhttps://www.hadleyspoint.com/ \nTammy and I will reserve site C-37 (water and electric) and it is near to a pod of tent sites (13-20\, 30-36\, 40-42). We will also reserve C-36 to use as a home base for the group. We will ask attendees to help pay for this community site. If we get 25 people\, that will mean about $5 per person for the weekend. \nIf you choose to go\, please drop us a line at pcm25me@gmail.com so we know who to expect and what site you are in. You can also stay anywhere you like and come visit as well. \nWe will continue the traditional experience of group happy hours and pot luck dinners in the evenings. Restaurants are also on the table. Activities during the day will be up to the group. Hiking\, biking\, paddling\, etc.

SUMMARY:Dark Skies Seniors Getaway at AMC Medawisla Lodge and Cabins
DESCRIPTION:As MOAC members\, we are inviting you to join us for a 3 nights getaway in the middle of Maine at AMC’s Medawisla Lodge and Cabins in the Maine Woods Initiative area geared to seniors but open to all. Whether you enjoy easier trails in the woods\, climbing mountains\, off road biking or paddling\, you can find something to do here. However\, you can just enjoy sitting on the porch at the lodge or down at the lake. Bring your own kayak\, paddle board or canoe or use one available there. There are also 2 other ponds to enjoy by canoe down the road. There is off road and trail biking available. Hiking opportunities vary from mostly flat to mountains. Please be sure to bring your equipment and carry the essentials. There is no phone service on most trails in the area. \nYou must use the link below to register for this getaway.\nhttps://activities.outdoors.org/s/oc-activity/a5UVX0000014TsT2AU/act00019975 \nMore info on the AMC website (link above).
