Brave the wind and climb Tuckerman’s ravine trail up to the base of the headwall, about 2,500′ elev gain, 3 miles each way. Wind chills will be below zero most of this hike, so be prepared with lots of warm layers, hat, extra pair of gloves, goggles or snug sunglasses, a hot drink in your thermos, and an insulated water bottle. There is a shelter at Hermit Lake where we can have lunch. You must have micro-spikes for this hike – trail report says it is packed and icy. Not stabil-icers, not yak-trax – real micro-spikes are required (like these: https://kahtoola.com/product/microspikes/). Hiking poles are recommended. Meet at Fryeburg visitor center at 8 AM, and contact me if you’d like to carpool from Portland. We will stop for food/drink afterwards. Please RSVP by email, text or clicking the “Going” button below.
