Wildcats A-D Winter NH 4K x 2

Group Size Limit is 12 total.  All the people who RSVP for the overnight are welcome to join

RSVP information:

I sincerely want everyone to have a fantastic and safe time while out hiking and need to:

1. Have your contact information

2. Have your emergency contact information

3. Ensure that your abilities are well matched to the hike.

Everyone who RSVPs will be wait listed first. I will change the RSVP to going only if the RSVP questions are completely answered and I think the hike is a good match with your abilities. Please read the hike description completely and answer the RSVP question in less than 250 characters using a PC. Over 250 Characters will result in the Meetup app not saving any of the RSVP and it will seem to the organizer as though the question was not answered. Be concise, use shorthand or direct message me.

It is COMMON to have problems using the meetup RSVP. It doesn’t work on your phone.

Please be responsive to emails and outing related comments

Our hike:

Climb the 19 Mile Brook Trail. Overnight folks drop gear at the Carter Hut. We climb from the notch over the Wildcat Ridge trail summiting Wildcats A-D, then retrace our way back to the hut.

You will need the standard winter day hike items including snowshoes, microspikes, crampons, balaclava, goggles extra layers, etc.

I93N Exit 35 to US Rt 3. Follow US 3 through Carrol and continuing past the junction with US 302. From US 3, make a right onto NH 115 and follow it to US 2. At the junction make a right onto US 2 and follow it to the Gorham. In Gorham, look for NH 16, and make a right following it south a few miles until the trailhead on your left. The trailhead is close to the Great Gulf Wilderness and Camp Dodge, it is north of Glen House

Carpool: Coordinate by comment/direct message. The typical carpool location is off I-93 exit 14 in the parking lot between LL Bean and Hannaford’s in Concord. Go to the fence near the freeway

USFS White Mountains Fee Area $5.00 per day

Weather forced hike changes:

Due to typical NE rapid and substantial changes in the weather forecast, I will wait until the night before the hike for the final weather based go or don’t decision. If you have lodging reservations, please make a contingency plan in case the weather turns for the worse.

Equipment requirements:

Winter. Snowshoes, crampons, Microspikes/Hillsound/Kahtoola, Insulating layers, fleece, soft shell, hardshell outer layers, hat, gloves, + spare hat and gloves, balaclava, goggles, mittens, headlight + spare, emergency bivy/shelter, thermal pad, enough food to keep you going. Be prepared to sit out an emergency situation for overnight.

This is a long hike and the day will be short. Bring a working headlamp and a backup headlamp with spare batteries
