SUMMARY:Canoe Canyons of the Rio Grande!
DESCRIPTION:Canoe 100 miles through the wild lands of West Texas/Mexico below 2\,000′ sheer wall canyons! Remote desert landscape!  These are the Lower Canyons just in and downstream of Big Bend National Park\, Texas.  Possibly slated for a border wall this year so this might be the last time.  Some rapids (class 2) and portaging\, Camp on the banks and drink tequila!  If you don’t have a lot of canoe experience\, you will.  See this Youtube clip: https://youtu.be/l6lFDnNwY-U?si=6AldDNp7P-Abc9WW   Mind you\, they did tougher rapids than we will.  Not for wimps though.  Don’t be fooled!  Hands down\, my favorite trip!  Fly into Midland\, Texas\, rent a car to Terlingua where an outfitter will shuttle and provide canoes\, etc.  Cost might be around $900 plus air. See:https://youtu.be/l6lFDnNwY-U?si=Xi3mhllLCjEbQmt.  Text/call Dan@47eight\, six8 35!  or email me! pocketcrimper@gmail.com

SUMMARY:Monthly Meeting - Presumpscot River: Looking Toward the Future of an old River Found
DESCRIPTION:The Presumpscot River was named by the Wabenaki for its many falls and rapids. It once held massive runs of searun fish. After colonization it become the most industrialized and polluted river in the state. It has had the largest percentage of its total length under dams and the back waters they created and the fish runs were lost. It was for all practical purposes an open sewer for homes and industries. \nNow a number of organizations are developing a shared vision for the river’s future. A vision not set in the 18th and 19th centuries but one for the 21st century. One that addresses recreation\, health\, community development and livability\, water quality\, free flows\, ecology\, and education. It is a vision that addresses protection and conservation along the river and into the watershed. \nThe Friends of the Presumpscot River have been a leader in the restoration of this river since 1992. We are grateful to our many allies who have\, and are now\, joining us in this effort. We are at a true turning point for the river. \n—————– \nPresenter’s Bio \nMichael Shaughnessy is a founding Board member and current president of the Friends of the Presumpscot River. He is a Westbrook City Councilor and serves on various committees. He is professor Emeritus at the University of Southern Maine in Art. He is married to Malory Shaughnessy and lives on the Conant Homestead above the Falls of Saccarappa. \n—————– \n6:30PM Social;   7:00PM  Program Start\nA2U2 Church\, 524 Allen Ave.\, Portland

SUMMARY:Ossippe River trip
DESCRIPTION:This is a trip I have run annually with MOAC since joining in 1998 ( except for a couple of the Covid years).  The trip is about 7 miles of class 2 whitewater river travel.  Not a show and go trip.  I need to talk with participants to ensure folks have the proper gear and clothing.   Swimming in cold water has happened on past trips so I need to understand where folks have paddled before\, what clothing they have and what type of boat they plan to use.   We usually stop on the river to eat lunch along the way.   This trip will also be offered as a joint trip with the PPCS group that I presented at the March 2026 meeting.   If interested\, reach out to get more details.   My cell is 207-653-9315     Thanks   Bob Radowicz

SUMMARY:Sandy River Trip
DESCRIPTION:It has been quite some time since I have run this river.    I remember it being a nice Class 2 whitewater river trip.   Similar to the Ossippee trip that I posted for the weekend prior\, folks need to reach out and chat with me before the trip so I can help ensure they have the right gear and clothing and get an idea of other whitewater paddling they have done.   If interested\, reach out and talk with me.   Cell number is 207-653-9315.  This trip will also be a joint trip with the PPCS group.   Thanks !  Bob Radowicz

SUMMARY:Memorial Day Weekend Camping in Bar Harbor - UPDATE!!
DESCRIPTION:As of 3/25/26\, Hadley’s lists 9 tent sites available and “plenty” of RV sites (water/electric/some with sewer). If you are interested in this trip\, please don’t wait too long. You also do NOT need to stay at Hadley’s. You are welcome to outdoor adventure with us and hang out for the evening/whenever festivities. \nLet’s keep a long-standing MOAC tradition alive by welcoming summer with a group campout on Mt. Desert Island. \nWe camped at Hadley’s Point CG last year and had a great time. Hadley’s Point is just off Route 3 as you head to Bar Harbor. It is 2.5 miles before Bar Harbor Campground. Holiday weekend prices appear to be: \n\nField tent sites are $37.00 per night\nWooded tent sites are $39.00 per night\nSites with water/electric are $54.00 per night\nThey even have cabins if you want to check those out\n\nThere appears to be a $3.25 campground fee\, plus tax of course. \nhttps://www.hadleyspoint.com/ \nTammy and I will reserve site C-37 (water and electric) and it is near to a pod of tent sites (13-20\, 30-36\, 40-42). We will also reserve C-36 to use as a home base for the group. We will ask attendees to help pay for this community site. If we get 25 people\, that will mean about $5 per person for the weekend. \nIf you choose to go\, please drop us a line at pcm25me@gmail.com so we know who to expect and what site you are in. You can also stay anywhere you like and come visit as well. \nYou do have to make your own reservations. Deposit amounts vary. For 1-2 nights\, it is the full balance. For 3 or more it is $100. Unfortunately\, they state there are no refunds for a holiday weekend. \nIt might be best to grab a site as soon as you can if you are interested. \nWe will continue the traditional experience of group happy hours and pot luck dinners in the evenings. Restaurants are also on the table. Activities during the day will be up to the group. Hiking\, biking\, paddling\, etc.
