DESCRIPTION:We’ll meet at a park and ride TBD and drive to the Long mountain loop Trailhead. This loop is 5.6 miles with just under 1\,200 feet of elevation gain. Dress warm in layers and bring both snowshoes and traction since I am not sure of the conditions. Saturday looks sunny and cold. Bring plenty of water and snacks.  The hike will probably take 3.5 hours and the drive is 1.5 hours from Portland. DESCRIPTION:Interested in a 5-7 day walking trip through southern France? The Stevenson Trail (or G70) is a moderate difficulty path that passes through picturesque villages\, forests\, and low mountains (the Cévennes region of the Massif Central). It is named after Robert Louis Stevenson (Treasure Island) who traveled it with a pack donkey and wrote a book about his trip. Today\, you can follow the well-marked route\, aided by maps and guidebooks. And a series of outfitters and B&Bs associated with the trail make it possible to rent a donkey and stop each night at lodgings. Prices are reasonable\, the food is good\, and the scenery is beautiful (fluffy hiking companion is a bonus!). No French is required. In 2014\, Paul became executive director at Friends of Fort Gorges\, and now this work culminates in his current role at Bicycle Coalition. Paul is the founder of Vision Zero Maine which is dedicated to advancing Vision Zero policy in the State of Maine. His professional passions include nonprofit leadership\, transportation equity\, and mentoring others. SUMMARY:Sunkhaze Meadows snowshoe/hike
DESCRIPTION:Sunkhaze Meadows National Wildlife Refuge is a large block of pristine land near Old Town which is difficult to tour unless you’re a duck. There are trails around the upland perimeter\, and you can paddle Sunkhaze Stream if you don’t mind hopping beaver dams\, but everything in between is a muddy mess unless it’s frozen. Well\, it’s winter\, right? Worth a try anyway. We’ll start from one of the trailheads on the County Road and hike to the edge of the woods\, then if conditions permit we’ll wander out onto the frozen marsh and stake out a beaver lodge. Light bushwhacking may be required. Bring snacks and a sitting pad if you have one\, we’ll find a place out of the wind and take in the silence. I’ll check on snow conditions a couple days ahead and make a suggestion about footgear (snowshoes/microspikes/boots). Warm weather will cancel. Seven of us also chose to do the offered Pre-Trip to Safari in South Africa where we saw the”Big Five”! \n  \nCome to the meeting to learn more about this fantastic trip. \nThe experience was so interesting\, Andi will return to her fourth trip to Africa this Fall. This time it will be Overseas Adventure Travels\, “Namibia & Skeleton Coast: Africa’s Last Wilderness” with a Post-trip to Madagascar. \n \n__________________ \nIn addition to the presentations\, the meeting is a chance to hear about recent outings\, hear about upcoming outings\, and socialize with other MOACers. They currently lead two large annual trips in the fall\, one to Flagstaff Hut of Maine Huts & Trails\, and the other is a volunteer weekend for Acadia National Park. \n_________________ \nIn addition to the presentations\, the meeting is a chance to hear about recent outings\, hear about upcoming outings\, and socialize with other MOACers. DESCRIPTION:After much input about Tahiti\, here’s the trip:  Fly to Papeete\, Tahiti\, maybe stay a day.  Then puddle jumper to Raiatea\, a nearby island where charters start.  The boat is a 43′ sailboat.  I’ll be there early to buy provisions. Sail to several islands including Bora Bora and in many lagoons\, anchoring for spectacular snorkeling.  Several people including myself will tack on a week or two either side of these dates.  I’m shooting for 5 crew -maybe you! –  Cost will be $600 your share of the boat for a week plus food and airfare.  Air looks like around $1\,200 from Boston depending on your itinerary.  I plan to stop in LA for a day.  Round trips from there to Tahiti are about $780.  I’ll need $500 commitment within a week or so to hold the boat!  Now\, don’t be a wimp or say ……  You’re running out of time!  Text/call me for more details as they become available!  Dan@ four78 six835 and ask for lefty!

SUMMARY:Libby River Preserve Walk
DESCRIPTION:Join me for a 1.75 mile walk at this Scarborough Land Trust site right next to Camp Ketcha. The area includes an observation deck overlooking the Libby River\, part of Scarborough Marsh\, and a wooded area with many skunk cabbage blooms (if you haven’t seen one\, they’re very unique). Bring your binoculars if you’re a birder. There are some muddy patches\, so boots are recommended and there are also multiple sections of a thin boardwalk over wet areas. If anyone is interested\, we can add some more mileage with a walk at Ferry Beach\, or along the Eastern Trail. Parking is limited at the Preserve\, so let’s meet at Black Point Community Park (160 Black Point Rd) at 1:00pm and carpool if needed. Show and go at the Community Park.
