The Nature Conservancy is committed to connecting people with nature all over the world. Come learn about the Conservancy’s work with communities in the Katahdin Region and beyond to the Upper St. John River valley deep in the great north woods of Maine.
Bill Patterson, Senior Field Representative – Northern Maine – Focused on The Nature Conservancy’s Northern Maine conservation and community work, Bill is responsible for the management of more than 200,000 acres of conserved land including the Upper St. John River and Debsconeag Lakes Wilderness Area. Sustainable forest management and public recreation form the core of his work. While Bill is inspired by the beautiful forests, lakes, and rivers he is privileged to help protect, he is motivated by the partnerships and friendships in local communities that recreate and work on Conservancy lands in their backyards. Bill has served in a variety of professional and volunteer leadership positions around the state of Maine and in his home community. Before joining the Conservancy in 1999, Bill was a Peace Corps Volunteer in the tiny Bolivian mountain village of Toracari (1996-1998) where he worked in Partnership with World Neighbors to implement community-based reforestation and soil conservation measures.
