SUMMARY:Hike Tuckermans Ravine
DESCRIPTION:Climb up to Lunch Rocks at Tuckerman’s Ravine\, about 6 miles round trip and 2700′ elevation gain. There may be skiers to watch\, although I’m guessing they’ll mostly be doing the Sherburne trail rather than the ravine. Expect winter conditions – micro spikes are required and snowshoes may be helpful. It will be windy and cold so also bring warm layers\, extra gloves\, a hot drink\, lunch\, water and snacks. RSVP by phone or text (207-380-6008) or email for meeting places and times and carpool info (we’re not leaving at 2 AM). We’ll probably stop somewhere afterwards for refreshments. Fully vaccinated and boosted hikers only\, max group size is 8.

SUMMARY:Holiday Lights Stroll
DESCRIPTION:Join me for the traditional Holiday lights stroll through downtown Portland!  We’ll meet at the intersection of Commercial and India St at 6pm (I’m not sure how easy it is to find parking these days). We ‘ll walk for about 90 minutes to try and see as many light displays as we can. ‘Tis the Season! And I’m sure there will be other strolls posted later in the December.

SUMMARY:WALK POPHAM BEACH
DESCRIPTION:Join us for an approximately two & one-half hour walk along the beach from Popham Beach State Park to Fort Popham and return on Tuesday December 6th.  Although a chance of showers is predicted for that day\, it appears from the forecast this may be one of the last 50 + degree days for a while to take advantage of.  For those that wish\, pack a light lunch to enjoy in the vicinity of Fort Popham prior to the return leg of the walk. We will step off at 12 noon sharp from the Popham Beach State Park parking lot. As high tide will have been around 10 AM\, the entire walk should be during ebb tide ensuring a wide berth and decent walking conditions.  Getting there is straight forward as one can take Maine – 209 in Phippsburg right to Popham Beach State Park with adequate signage along Maine -209 directing visitors to the Park. We will meet in the center of the parking lot directly ahead of the entry shack. For any questions on the day of the walk\, 802-770-9106. Prior to that time\, 207-844-8142 or via mcb-12nam@outlook.com. Please note\, cell service in that area can be spotty. \n  \n

SUMMARY:MOAC Monthly Meeting – Yellowstone in Winter
DESCRIPTION:MOAC member (and board member) Marianne Hill will share slides and stories from her December 23- 28\, 2015  trip to Yellowstone.  Yellowstone has an eerie beauty in the winter as steam from hot springs dots or even shrouds the landscape.  Animals are easy to spot against the snow\, which averages over 13 feet deep near Yellowstone Lake.  Marianne visited Mammoth Hot Springs\, the Grand Canyon of Yellowstone; Yellowstone Lake; West Thumb geyser basin and more. Also\, there are some fascinating scientific discoveries associated with the park.  If you have visited Yellowstone in the winter\, please come and share your experience. \n___________________________________________\nIn addition to the speaker\, the meeting is a chance to hear about recent outings\, hear about upcoming outings\, and socialize with other MOACers.  It’s also a chance for new or prospective members to ask questions.  Meeting begins at 7:00\, but come at 6:30 to socialize and meet people. \nLocation: the Allen Avenue Unitarian Universalist Church\, 524 Allen Avenue\, Portland (near Northgate Shopping Plaza).  Here’s a Google Map link. \nWe may try to record using Zoom. \nMOAC Event is inviting you to a scheduled Zoom meeting. \nTopic: General Meeting\nTime: Dec 7\, 2022 06:30 PM Eastern Time (US and Canada) \nJoin Zoom Meeting\nhttps://us02web.zoom.us/j/86463290859?pwd=T1BRTWIrRWxmKzdjUUVlV3pRc0gzZz09 \nMeeting ID: 864 6329 0859\nPasscode: 366266 \n

SUMMARY:HAPPY HOUR
DESCRIPTION:HAPPY HOUR this Friday will be at JUNCTION BOWL located at 7 Railroad Avenue in Gorham. Yeah\, there are some bowling alleys there but it’s primarily a very lively sports bar. Free parking in their own lot\, full bar\, and good pub menu. \nPLEASE NOTE: Apologies to those who went to the Happy Hour last Friday at Oxbow Brewing and found that seating was limited to the outside heated booths and that inside seating was “reserved for a private event”. There was no mention of this on their website and\, in speaking to them\, they do not have an easy and efficient way to alert their regular customers when the inside space is unavailable. \n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\nWith the advent of cooler weather\, MOAC Happy Hours may now be located at establishments offering limited or no options for outdoor seating.  For each Happy Hour venue\, we will try to give as much information as practical about available seating options.\n\nParticipation in Happy Hour events\, regardless of seating options\, is a personal decision and MOAC assumes no liability for potential health risks associated with attending these activities.\n\nVaccination against COVID-19 (including approved booster shots) is STRONGLY ENCOURAGED\, but not required for participation in Happy Hour events.   Participants are expected to practice safe behaviors including social distancing\, hand washing and wearing a mask when not eating/drinking or when not seated.   Please be respectful of other people’s choices and comfort level.  Do not participate if you are not feeling well\, exhibiting COVID symptoms\, have recently tested positive for COVID or have come into close contact with someone who may be COVID positive.

SUMMARY:POPHAM BEACH WALK
DESCRIPTION:All are welcome to join one last scenic and peaceful walk along Popham Beach for 2022 on Saturday the 31st of December.  We will walk from the Popham Beach State Park parking lot to the beach and then proceed East along the beach to the Kennebec and then continue along the beach to Fort Popham\, grab one of the picnic tables at the Fort for a half-hour or so and return. For those that wish\, pack a lunch to enjoy at the Fort. We will step off from the parking lot at 11 AM and anticipate being back to the parking lot at approximately 1:30 PM.  As low tide is at 12 noon\, we should have a fairly wide berth and decent footing in both directions. We will meet in the middle of the parking lot directly ahead of the entry shack. Follow Maine route 209 through Phippsburg directly to the State Park entrance. Watch for Popham Beach State Park signage along Maine route 209 while motoring through Phippsburg.  For any questions prior to December 31st\, 207-844-8142 (this is a land line) or mcb-12nam@outlook.com. For questions the morning of the walk\, 802-770-9106.  Note:  Cell service in the State Park parking lot is unlikely. \n  \n  \n
