SUMMARY:Monthly Meeting – Hope in the Face of Climate Change
DESCRIPTION:March 1\, 2023 General Meeting\nFinding Hope in the Face of Climate Change\n \nWe are seeing the effects of climate change all around us—especially when we are enjoying the outdoors. But it’s hard to stay positive and motivated in the face of what we are seeing. Please join author Susan B Inches for a presentation on the good things happening in environmental policy\, and what you can do to be a part of it. By working together\, we can create a healthy future. This talk will show you how. \n\nSince childhood\, Susan Inches has envisioned a world that is compassionate\, inclusive\, and environmentally aware. This vision guided her through a 25-year career in public policy. As Deputy Director of the Maine State Planning Office she was an environmental lobbyist representing the Governor. Signature issues she’s worked on include fisheries\, land use planning\, smart growth\, building and energy codes\, renewable energy\, working waterfront access\, community finance\, and rural broadband.  \nSue now works as a speaker\, educator\, author and advocate with a focus on the environment and climate change. She holds a BA in Human Ecology from College of the Atlantic\, and an MBA from the University of New Hampshire. She has taught advocacy skills at Colby\, Bates and Colorado Colleges. Her recent book is Advocating for the Environment\, How to Gather Your Power and Take Action. \n\nIn addition to the speaker\, the meeting is a chance to hear about recent outings\, hear about upcoming outings\, and socialize with other MOACers.  It’s also a chance for new or prospective members to ask questions.  Meeting begins at 7:00\, but come at 6:30 to socialize and meet people. \nLocation: the Allen Avenue Unitarian Universalist Church\, 524 Allen Avenue\, Portland (near Northgate Shopping Plaza).  Here’s a Google Map link. \nZoom starts at 6:45. On a good day\, if all goes well. \nMOAC Event is inviting you to a scheduled Zoom meeting. \nTopic: Monthly Meeting\nTime: Mar 1\, 2023 06:45 PM Eastern Time (US and Canada) \nJoin Zoom Meeting\nhttps://us02web.zoom.us/j/84750647231?pwd=bU5wTEtPdnpnZzNhTlhnVy9ua0JMUT09 \nMeeting ID: 847 5064 7231\nPasscode: 829157\nOne tap mobile\n+13052241968\,\,84750647231#\,\,\,\,*829157# US\n+13092053325\,\,84750647231#\,\,\,\,*829157# US \nDial by your location\n+1 305 224 1968 US\nMeeting ID: 847 5064 7231\nPasscode: 829157\nFind your local number: https://us02web.zoom.us/u/kezOdncPZt \n

RSVP for meeting places and times and carpool information (we’re not leaving at 2 AM). Max group size is 8.

SUMMARY:HIKE MORSE MOUNTAIN PRESERVE (MODIFIED) - PHIPPSBURG
DESCRIPTION:Being the first day of Spring with the temp predicted to be pushing fifty degrees\, we will be hiking a modified version of the previous Morse Mountain outing. On the way out\, we will take the relatively short spur to the overlook in order to take in the beautiful panorama that this spot affords prior to continuing on to the beach to relax and have our lunch prior to heading back. As the spur appears have a steep section\, we will pace ourselves accordingly on that stretch. Time and interest permitting\, we will perhaps walk a short section of the West end of the beach this time around (as we walked the East end previously). Take Maine Route 209 through Phippsburg to the point at which the road continues straight on to Maine Route 216. Proceed on Maine Route 216 for 0.8 +/- miles and turn left on to Morse Mountain Road.  Proceed about 500 feet to the parking lot on the left. We will step off at 11 AM.  Suggest having cleats with you just in case. If there are any questions prior to the day of the hike\, mcb-12nam@outlook.com or 207-844-8142 (this is a land line) and 802-770-9106 the day of the hike. As noted previously\, cell service can be spotty in this area. \n  \n
