SUMMARY:MOAC Meeting: Canoe the Rio Grande Lower Canyons!
DESCRIPTION:Join Dan Kidd to hear about one of the best canoe trips ever through the deep desert canyons in one of the most remote areas between Texas and Mexico. Heat stroke\, rapids\, wrapped and abandoned canoes\, no water\, saving cattle in quick sand\, dodging bullets and more! Tips on what not to do! Hear what happens first hand when you call rescue 911 and how to call for help with InReach! Save yourself! \nDan Kidd is one of the very early members of MOAC and has served as president more times than he can count. He has led a great number of trips throughout the world. Among his most favorite is the Rio Grande Lower Canyon canoe trip being featured this month! He has led canoe trips\, besides a great number here in our own home state of Maine\, in Montana\, Utah\, New York Adirondacks\, Canada’s Labrador\, Northwest Territory\, Yukon\, Nova Scotia\, Saskatchewan\, Manitoba\, Quebec\, Hudson Bay\, the Amazon and some we can’t mention. At this point\, his expertise lies primarily in what not to do\, and in situations to avoid in group settings. If you are considering leading an expedition\, this discussion might well serve as a bible\, enough said. \nMeeting begins at 7:00.  Come at 6:30 or so to socialize with your friends and meet new people. \n

SUMMARY:Mt Pisgah Peak and Ledges Trail\, Kennebec Land Trust
DESCRIPTION:Join me for a morning hike to explore the trails and climb the fire tower in Mt. Pisgah Conservation Area held by Kennebec Land Trust. Trails are well maintained. Weather should be clearing after weekend rains\, which I hope will wash out the smoke intruding on New England from Canadian and Minnesotan fires. The forecast includes more rain after Monday\, so Friday could be the alternate date. \n\nI propose the Tower Trail-Blueberry Trail loop\, 2.4 miles with elevation gain of 329 feet. We could also extend by doing the Ledges Trail also\, which may add about 1 mile more.\n\nMeet at TH at 8:30 a.m. be back at the cars by 1:00 p.m. Email me your interest so we can coordinate driving and possibly weather delay.

SUMMARY:Bald Mountain & Little Concord Pond
DESCRIPTION:Friday’s weather forecast is ideal for a combination hike and mountain pond swim. Let’s go to Bald Mountain and Little Concord Pond  near Peru and west Paris. \nIt’s a short\,  modest hike of 738 vertical. I propose hiking to the summit to enjoy the views\,  back down to the pond for a swim and lunch at the pond. \nThe trail  passes the pond. I have never been there but I am told the pond is deep with a a rocky shore-  no mucky Bottom. \nPlease email me at bradbury20@gmail.com if you plan to go. Car pooling from the marginal way Portland parking area at 8 am Friday 7/24. \nOr meet us at the Bald Mountain  Concord Pond Trail head at 9:45 . \n  \nFrom the east\, heading south on Route 140\, turn right on to Stetson Road 2.6 miles south of Canton center. After 2.8 miles turn right on to Fields Hill Road. Fields Hill Road turns in to Labrador Pond Road after 1.6 miles and stay straight for another 1.0 miles. Stay straight on to Greenwood Road for 0.2 miles before bearing left on to Black Mountain Road. After 0.8 miles turn left on to Redding Road. Stay straight (Redding Road turns into Shagg Pond Road) for 5.3 miles.  The parking area will be to the left. \nTrail information and driving directions here \nhttps://www.mainetrailfinder.com/trails/trail/little-concord-pond-state-park \n  \n
