On the first Saturday of November each year, Friends Of Acadia sponsors a day to help prepare the famous carriage roads for winter. The work involves raking leaves to allow proper drainage of the roads to prevent winter damage.
Somewhere in the neighborhood of 400 people will converge on the Park Headquarters to be placed in groups and transported to the assigned work area. There are some breakfast items and usually some swag for participants. After working, FOA provides lunch on the lawn at HQ.
Things usually break up by 1:00-1:30 leaving you the rest of the day to enjoy one of Maine’s treasures.
Tammy and I make a weekend of it. We, and other MOACers, over the years, might work in the same group (that can happen with planning), and/or meet for dinner Saturday night.
If you wish to work together, please let me know or if you contact FOA directly, please mention MOAC and/or my name.
There’s nothing better than enjoying Acadia National Park knowing you did your part to help make it what it is.
Please click HERE for more information. There is a way to register on your own on this page. This will get you in a random group. If you wish to work along with us and possibly other club members, please send your name on to me.
