*** see Addendum and Update below*** Flatwater/Class I paddling on the Royal River from the Route 231 river crossing near Intervale to Dunns Corner (on Route 9). [start location: see Maine Atlas, Map 5, B-4] Meetup location and shuttle organizing will be at 10 am at the Royal River access spot on Route 9 near Intervale. The trip end time of 3 or 4 pm is a guesstimate. Disclaimer: I’ve never paddled this stretch of the Royal and while these 11+/- miles should make for a lovely spring paddle, (I’ve scouted most of the road crossings–they all look fine), this trip could turn into a bit of an adventure depending on downed trees and unexpected beaver dams, so participants should be prepared to do some minor wading and puckerbrush portaging. ***Addendum 4/25, 3 pm: We have the possibility of taking on people without their own boat (putting you in a tandem canoe), let Rick know if you need that accommodation.  At this point we have 7 who have indicated an interest.  I think I’m going to alter the start point to a spot where there is a bit more parking.  Let’s plan to start at the Route 231 River crossing near Intervale.  That cuts off about 2 miles of river, making the total trip about 11 miles. If you haven’t already done so, let me know if you’re interested.

***Update 4/25, 3:20 pm: thinking through the shuttle setup a bit more…  We’ll plan to all meet at 10 am at the river crossing on Rt 231 near Intervale [my original trip post had the meeting spot downriver at the takeout].
