STORYSLAM: WHERE there’s SMOKE, There’s FIRE! $25 prize!

      WEDS, October 10, 2018

Rines Auditorium, Portland Public Library, 5 Monument Sq., Portland

brief workshop led by MOACer and Storyteller, JeanArmstrong.com

Come tell your 7 minute story on the theme! $25 PRIZE for the winner!

Where there’s smoke, there’s fire! Combustion, spark, flame, smoke, Smokin’ hot, fire away, You’re fired! Blowing smoke, Ball of fire, fan the flames, an old flame, House on fire, Forest fire, firemen, Burning love, burn your bridges, light my fire, fire in the belly, under fire, smoke someone out, smoking gun, smoke and mirrors, set the world on fire! The possibilities are endless for story ideas related to smoke and fire!

What’s a SLAM? True stories based on the theme(FIRE, SMOKE), that are true and lived by you, told but not read. What it isn’t: a poetry slam, spoken word, preaching, reading, singing, tap dancing, myth, folklore or telling someone else’s story you didn’t live. Friendly judges will judge the story and the person with the highest averaged score wins the money! Maybe you’ve heard ‘The Moth’ on NPR. Moth stories started out at slams given a theme with a time limit with audience members drawn by pulling their names out of a hat.

Story Slam hosted by storyteller, JeanArmstrong.com will provide a brief storytelling slam workshop to get you started if you don’t arrive prepared with a story! If you have one, enjoy a chance to tell to 1 other person and play around with some ideas. No obligation to tell on stage! Musical interludes by the wonderful singer/songwriter, RondaDale.com.

Sponsored by MOOSE, Maine Organization for Storytelling Enthusiasts(non profit). We meet every 2nd WEDS of the month at 7pm at the Portland Public Library. Because the entire evening is stories by the audience, we will forego our usual format of open mic followed by a featured performer.

Hope to see you there with some friends! Spread the word like a wildfire! Don’t want to tell? Come and listen or be a lenient judge!
