SUMMARY:Zoot Jumpers at Conant Homestead
DESCRIPTION:The Zoot Jumpers are playing for the Conant Homestead’s Saccarappa Summer Concert Series!  The Zoot Jumpers are a great\, fun dance band\, and also great fun to listen to.  Here’s a sample of their music.  Let’s get a good MOAC crowd to enjoy the music and support the band and Conant Homestead’s concert series. \nThe Zoot Jumpers are a Maine-based band that plays hot jump blues and cool swing\, including the great music of Count Basie\, Louis Jordan\, Squirrel Nut Zippers\, and more.  The band features Bruce Couillard on saxophones\, Michelle Boggs on trumpet\, Bess Jacques on piano\, Tom Jacques on bass and harmonica\, and Per Hanson on drums and harmonica.  Everybody sings! \nSuggested donation of $15 (all proceeds go to the musicians).  BYO chair or blanket\, food & drink. Event is outside on the beautiful grounds at 89 Conant Street in Westbrook.  Come early and walk the trails and meet the chickens and goats.  There is parking on the street but parking is also available in downtown Westbrook and from there the homestead is a short walk up the Presumpscot River along the Western Falls (near Mill Lane) and into the Conant Trails.  We also encourage folks to get takeout at one of Westbrook’s many fine eateries.

SUMMARY:North Falmouth Community Forest hike
DESCRIPTION:I haven’t been here before\, but it’s been recommended.  Let’s check it out while the weather is good. \nAllTrails says the loop is about 5 miles and 600 feet elevation gain.  AllTrails rates it as moderate\, but it looks fairly easy for a moderate hike.  Note that hunting is allowed here\, so wearing orange is a good idea. \nContact me for more information and directions.

SUMMARY:Band Concert – “A Little Americana”
DESCRIPTION:The concert band I play clarinet in is performing a concert at St. Luke’s Cathedral in Portland this Saturday. \nIt will be finished in plenty of time to make it to the Holiday Party.  But\, if you’d like to help with the party setup\, do that\, don’t come to the concert! \nWe’re calling the concert theme “A Little Americana” as we have some medleys of recognizable tunes\, a couple of railroad themed songs\, and a couple of holiday pieces. \nAlso\, we’re having a bake sale! \n

SUMMARY:Summerfest Hike
DESCRIPTION:An easy hike on Mt. Apatite\, in Auburn.  Depending on the trails we take\, this should be about 3 miles and 300 feet elevation gain.  It’s only about 15 minutes from Range Pond\, but we’ll probably want to carpool.  I’m posting it for 2:00\, figuring that would give us time to eat lunch.  Then\, when we come back\, there will be time to go for a swim and eat more food!

SUMMARY:Snowshoe at Winterfest
DESCRIPTION:Let’s go snowshoeing at Winterfest.  The property is still snow covered and pretty.  It’s not super deep\, but it’s really soft and wet.  Snowshoes will be a lot better than just boots.

SUMMARY:Hedgehog Mountain hike/snowshoe
DESCRIPTION:Had a change of plan last Sunday\, so I’ll try this again.  More snow is on the way\, so let’s get out.  Let’s hike Hedgehog Mountain\, off the Kancamagus Highway.  It’s about a 5 mile loop with 1400 feet elevation gain.   9-14 inches of snow is predicted for Wednesday\, into Thursday\, so we may need snowshoes.  We’ll at least need microspikes.  Also layers and all other winter gear.  Experience level: Intermediate.  Email me to sign up and for details\, including carpooling information.  Let me know your winter hiking experience.  Here’s a link to the AllTrails description of this hike. \n

SUMMARY:Red Hill Fire Tower hike
DESCRIPTION:The Red Hill Fire Tower\, near Moultonborough NH\, is one of the active NH fire towers (although not this time of year) so is on the Fire Tower Quest.  This loop is about 3.5 miles and 1300 feet elevation gain.  You’ll need all of your winter gear\, including microspikes.  I don’t expect to need snowshoes.   Email me if you’re interested and we can talk about the details.

SUMMARY:Mt. Rand and Klem Hike (Belknaps)
DESCRIPTION:I’m planning to hike Mt Rand (and maybe Klem).  We can adjust plans while we’re hiking depending on trail conditions and how people feel.  Distance to do both Rand and Klem is about 4 miles and 1\,300 feet elevation gain.  If we just do Rand\, it’s more like 3 miles and 900 feet.  Expect ice\, mud\, and who knows what else.  Microspikes required.  Email me for more information and so I can find out your hiking experience.  Also\, I need your contact information so I can let you know what the final plans are and so we can arrange carpooling. \n

SUMMARY:Mt. Eisenhower hike
DESCRIPTION:Hike Mt. Eisenhower this Sunday.  It’s one of the 4\,000 footers in the Presidential Range.  It’s a moderately difficult hike at about 7 miles and 2\,800 feet elevation gain. \nWe’ll hike as a group at a moderate pace\, but the slowest hiker determines the pace.  I’m usually slower coming down than going up.  Book time is 6 hours. \nWe should carpool at least part way\, since parking at the trailhead will probably be tight on this holiday weekend.  Maximum 6 people.  Email me for more details\, including meeting time and place\, gear\, etc.

SUMMARY:Belknap Range loop hike
DESCRIPTION:Four summits in one hike in the Lake Winnepesaukee region.  We’ll do Mounts Major\, North & South Straightback\, and Anna.  Trail reports sound like it’s spring conditions (as expected)\, so expect some mud\, snow\, ice\, and water.  This hike is about 7 miles and 1\,800 feet elevation gain.  The weather forecast looks great! \nWe’ll hike as a group at a moderate pace.  Email me (at wdbriggs10@gmail.com) to let me know you’re interested.  If I haven’t hiked with you before\, I’ll need to ask you about your hiking experience.  I’ll send more information to the group.
